The excitement is starting to kick in. It’s 3:26 a.m. the morning before we depart as I’m typing this. Our bags are 99% packed. The neighbors have been notified. The fridge has been emptied and the mail has been put on hold. Now all we have to do is make sure we are up and out of the house by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
A little bit of background on how and why we are taking this trip. As my parents have gotten older, we both have placed more value on spending more time together and sharing experiences. They have always loved to cruise and travel. In the fall of 2022 they took their first Viking cruise, an expedition cruise through the Great Lakes. When they returned home they raved about their experience and suggested our next cruise be on Viking. At first Denise and I were a little apprehensive as Viking caters toward an older clientele. At 48 and 49 we about 20 years younger than their average guest. But after talking over the itinerary and getting an opportunity to travel with my parents again, we were convinced. I’m not going to lie, I’m still a little anxious about the Viking experience. But with 12 ports over 14 days, this trip is more about the places we will visit rather than the ship itself. Regardless, we will make the best of it and I’m sure it will be a trip of a lifetime.
This trip also has some extra meaning to my dad as he has ancestral roots to Wales. To be able to visit the land of his ancestors is really special. I’ll share more about the entire itinerary in the upcoming days.
In 30 hours we will be on the road to Dallas to start our great adventure. We can’t wait to share our experiences with you.
