Today we embarked on the Bergensbanen (Bergen Railway) for a scenic train from Oslo to Bergen. We passed through about 180 tunnels on the 8 hour trip. This is one of Europe’s most beautiful train rides as it takes you through the scenic mountain track to the fjords. We saw some of the most beautiful landscapes in Norway!
Once we arrived and boarded the ship, ate a little, we headed out to do a nighttime Segway tour. After learning how to drive them we set off in the rain to tour Bergen.
First stop was at The Rosenkrantz Tower which was part of the Norwegian Royal Castle. Down the street we stopped at what once was the center of the Hanseatic League’s trading empire, the Bryggen wharf.
Colorful, historic wooden houses sit along the street. We then zig zagged through the city, even happening upon a Euro 2024 festival which was televising the Holland vs. England semifinal game. Our journey continued through the winding streets all the way up to The Fløibanen funicular (320 m above sea level). This provided us with breathtaking views of Bergen at night. We throughly enjoyed this tour as it allowed us to get into parts of the city you cannot see otherwise.
