Today got away from us a bit. We didn’t get back from our segway tour until 11 p.m. last night and after being soaked and a few days on traveling we decided to do some wash. After finally getting unpacked and settled in it was 1 a.m. before we went to bed.
We had originally planned to be up and exploring by 9 a.m. but we ended up sleeping in and didn’t get off the ship until 11:30 a.m. Since we already went to the top of the Floibanen the night before and the clouds cooperated and we had great views we decided we didn’t need to make another trip. Instead we decided to explore in-depth some of the sites we saw on our segway tour. First was the Bergenhus Fortress. The oldest part dates back to 1270 when it was part of the Norwegian Royal Castle. Close by was the historic Bryggen Wharf constructed of wooden houses and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This area was key to the Hanseatic Bryggen merchants. The trading merchants were vital to developing the city to what it is today.

We continued on to the Fish Market which is located in the heart of the city between the fjords and Bergen’s 7 mountains. Historically this was a meeting place for merchants and fishermen. The market had plenty of seafood, vegetables, and fruits.

Our last stop of the day was at the Magic Ice Bar for a cocktail to end our day in Bergen. This was a fun, but COLD experience. This was a fun bar that had Norwegian ice sculptures and ice booths with fur to sit on while you enjoyed your drink.

The evening was spent on our balcony watching the sail away from Norway.
